First Students Accepted at Cristo Rey San Jose
Admissions Director Diana Rodriguez reports that the first round of admissions decisions have been sent to students in San Jose. 100 students have already been offered admission in the inaugural freshmen class.
In addition, Principal Joe Albers has hired his full teaching staff. The Cristo Rey Network Teach-Learn-Lead team will travel to San Jose in early June to support curriculum implementation with the new team.

Principals from San Jose and Atlanta join Network for Mid-Year Convening
Joe Albers, Principal of Cristo Rey San Jose, and Fr. Jim van Dyke, Principal of Cristo Rey Atlanta, joined their colleagues in Chicago on January 9-10 for the Mid-Year Principals Meeting. This convening is designed to assist principals as they collaborate both to implement the common curriculum and assessments and improve instruction.

Fr. Foley Leads Board Retreat for San Jose
On December 5, Cristo Rey Network Chief Mission Officer Fr. John Foley, SJ, conducted a retreat for the Cristo Rey San Jose Board of Directors. During this retreat, Fr. Foley shared his perspectives on the mission of the Cristo Rey movement and outlined the 10 Cristo Rey Network Mission Effectiveness Standards, the core components of the Cristo Rey model. Fr. Foley also discussed the responsibility of the Board of Directors to collaborate with the school president in order to uphold these standards.

Cristo Rey San Jose President Fr. Peter Pabst recently hired Diana Rodriguez as the school’s first Admissions Director. Diana Rodriguez brings eight years of high school admissions experience to her role as the Director of Admissions at Cristo Rey San Jose. She served as the Director of Admissions at Notre Dame High School, an all-girls Catholic high school also located in San Jose. Diana holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Santa Clara University, and a Master of Science Degree in Communications. Diana is hard at work to ensure that Cristo Rey San Jose meets its minimum target of 125 students in its inaugural freshman class.

President Peter Pabst, SJ, recently hired Bob Couch as Cristo Rey San Jose’s Corporate Work Study Director. Bob brings more than 30 years of sales and marketing experience to his role as Cristo Rey San Jose’s Corporate Work Study Program Director. Bob’s background includes senior management roles in a diverse range of industries. During Bob’s 16 years in Silicon Valley he has held VP and SVP positions at Visa USA, Zilog Semiconductors, Cap Epsilon Software, ResponseLogix SaaS provider, and most recently Embarcadero Technologies. Prior to moving to the Bay Area, Bob was an executive in the marketing department of Anheuser-Busch, with which he credits his knowledge of, and love for, Brand development. Bob holds a Masters Degree in Communications, and has taken additional executive training from the Wharton School of Business.
A board meeting was held on September 26. An incredibly talented governing board has been assembled they are finalizing the site negotiations and proceeding with the launch year benchmark objectives.
Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School is projected to open in the Fall of 2014.
