A special field trip was held for one Milwaukee High School on Friday, as the entire Cristo Rey Jesuit student body attended the soccer team's first-ever state playoff appearance.
The school of 450 students opened in 2015. Rain, lightning and wind couldn't stop hundreds of students and fans from showing up to cheer on the Trailblazers.
"It's the first time for a relatively new school, so it's a relatively big accomplishment. Soccer's in our kid's blood. They live for it, they're trying to get the job done," said the school's athletic director, Reese Dziedzic.
"It's a pretty eye-opening experience to see how far our school has come to this day and see how much we've progressed," said Santi, a student at Cristo Rey Jesuit.
"Our school worked really hard to be where we're at, a lot of things didn't go our way, beating all odds, being here, right now it's nice," said Tony, another Cristo Rey Jesuit student.
The school canceled class for part of the day to make sure the entire student body could attend the game. The morning started with a pep rally for the team.
"You get a few opportunities to support your students and support your community and they absolutely came through, from the top down, our president and principal," Dziedzic said.
The Trailblazers beat Aquinas and the final score was 3-1. They play in the Division 4 final on Saturday afternoon.
