A Communication to Cristo Rey Network Friends and Family | January 2023 |

|
In Pursuit of Cristo Rey 2026 As we welcome 2023, we express our gratitude for our many business partners, Board members, donors, and advocates from across the nation. As you may recall from previous announcements, as I plan to retire in June, President & CEO Kelby Woodard will build on our collective efforts in educational access and quality for our 12,000 students. Kelby will facilitate the implementation of our intentional and ambitious 2026 strategic plan and guide these efforts towards an impactful future. So many of you made generous year-end contributions, affirming your hope in the future. Your investments will immediately impact this year's initiatives, including our program of sustained and job-embedded professional development for school leaders. As a learning organization, we are committed to continuous improvement in pursuit of our mission and vision, reflected in the sampling of January opportunities for Cristo Rey school leaders, previewed below.
Yours in Cristo Rey, |

| Junior Nguyen, Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School |
"The Work Study Program not only allowed me to explore my career interests, but taught me how to better communicate my ideas, build meaningful relationships, and be more confident and trusting of myself." In his first year at Cristo Rey, he was placed at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where Junior learned invaluable skills for his future. Coming from an untraditional family background, and as a first-generation student, his community at Haverford College accompanied him to be the first in his family to earn a Bachelor's of Science in Biology last spring. Upon graduation, Junior continued his journey with CHOP as a Research Technician II, and he has never looked back. |

| Brandon Woodall, Saint Martin de Porres High School |
"As I walked through the doors of Saint Martin as a 13-year-old, I did not know what was in store for me, but I did know I was embarking on an amazing journey with a school that supported me no matter what path I decided to take." Brandon knew he would graduate from Saint Martin college-ready, but what he did not imagine is that he would one day be an Executive Chef, teaching others to cook at Lorain Community College. Now, as the creator of Valerie's Kitchen and Catering, Brandon is cooking for his community and building his career. |
