A Communication to Cristo Rey Network Friends and Family | February 2023

Dear Friends,

As the Cristo Rey movement continues to create conditions for first-generation students to complete college, at this time of year we celebrate college acceptances.  Focusing on the quality of students' options rather than the quantity of acceptances, our College Initiatives programming directs students to the "best fit" college option and supports their successful matriculation into these institutions. Through individualized college and alumni counseling, our schools apply data-informed tools with a formula that prioritizes four key factors for "best fit":

  1. Academic match
  2. Affordability
  3. College/university graduation rates
  4. Students' personal goals and needs

Understanding that affordability is the greatest college access barrier for many of our students (from families in the lowest income quartile), the Cristo Rey Network national office has prioritized student supports that mitigate financial out-of-pocket costs for families. We are joined in this effort by generous donors, our 72 University Partners, and globally recognized scholarship organizations, collectively awarding millions of dollars in scholarships and financial aid offerings. (Scroll down to learn about some of these remarkable partnerships.)

Data affirms the impact of our growing collaborations:

Cristo Rey students are enrolling in college at a rate (85%) exceeding students (79%) from the highest income quartile.

For the Class of 2022, the average annual out-of-pocket cost for Cristo Rey students who committed to going to college was $3,257.

February remains an exciting month for the 2,715 graduating seniors in the Class of 2023. College acceptance letters continue to roll in, scholarship opportunities are still underway, and students are navigating their college decision-making process through robust, school-based counseling support. Through it all, Cristo Rey alums enrolled in college continue to demonstrate success at their institutions!

Stay tuned for an important announcement to be made in the weeks ahead!
