Cristo Rey Charleston Feasibility Study Transitions into Launch Phase
Brenda Morris

Cristo Rey Charleston’s Feasibility Study Report was formally approved by the Cristo Rey Network Board of Directors, permitting local leadership to advance into Launch, the 18-month period prior to a new school’s opening.

Momentum has taken off as the founding board recruits the founding leadership team in preparation for Cristo Rey Charleston High School to open in 2026 as the 42nd Cristo Rey Network school. The Founding President will work closely with the national office team for hiring support, board development, and implementation of demonstrated best practices across all critical organizational areas. As the school progresses through the next 18 months, the founding leadership team must achieve quarterly benchmarks that position the school for academic excellence, Corporate Work Study program viability, and overall operational success.

“We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary movement and the Cristo Rey mission to the families of Charleston,” remarked Conor Heaton, Cristo Rey Network Chief Legal Officer and SVP for Growth. “Without question, the Feasibility Study demonstrated the need for educational opportunities and outcomes for underserved youth, interest by the local community, and financial support for a sustainable Cristo Rey school in the Charleston market.”

Early results were highlighted in the announcement published by the Cristo Rey Charleston Feasibility Study Team:

  • $8+ million secured in philanthropic commitments
  • Corporate Work Study job placements for student associates at top tier businesses and organizations, and
  • a school site that will be renovated to be a state-of-the-art campus to support the enrollment growth of future students.

“We are deeply grateful to all of the volunteers, supporters, job partners, and dedicated people who have guided us to this stage,” remarked Tim Hayes, Founding Board Chair of Cristo Rey Charleston High School.
