Cristo Rey Orlando High School

On November 8, Cristo Rey Orlando High School broke ground on the renovations of their 75,000-square-foot founding building, set to open for the school’s inaugural freshman class in August 2025. The extensive renovations will create a state-of-the-art high school, "worthy of the students who will be in its classrooms," as Board Chair Bill Orosz described. This momentous event was attended by a variety of community, business, and political leaders who have worked together over the last 18 months during the Feasibility Study process to create the conditions for a successful Cristo Rey school. Leadership and students from Cristo Rey Miami High School and Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School also attended the celebration.

The school’s Founding President Amanda Livermore plans to recruit 150 freshmen to their founding class. During the event, she quoted the influential C.S. Lewis when describing the process of building a new school and preparing for these students:

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”
