In Memory of Roger W. Stone
Jessie Fenton

With cherished memories, we pray for our dear friend Roger W. Stone, who recently died. Mr. Stone's initial outreach to the Cristo Rey Network came after he read Daniel Henniger's article, "How About a Good Catholic Story?", in the Wall Street Journal in May 2010. Mr. Stone connected with our national office team and said, "If half of what I read is true, I'll give you $1 million."

For the past 11 years, the Roger and Susan Stone Family Foundation has advocated for Cristo Rey year-over-year, cumulatively gifting more than $1.8 million to enable us to create new opportunities for our schools and students. Since that first call by Mr. Stone, student enrollment has more than doubled - from 5,891 students in 24 schools to 12,300 students in 38 schools this school year.

All-in at both the national and local level, Mr. Stone was a Corporate Partner of Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep in Waukegan. His former company, KapStone Paper and Packaging, placed a full team of student workers in its office for seven years. He delighted in meeting Cristo Rey students and hearing about their work at KapStone.

Mr. Stone's legacy will long be remembered in the achievements of our students.
