December 16, 2021 - ORANGE COUNTY, CA - Today, Cristo Rey Orange County High School announced the appointment of its founding president, Stephen Holte.

On target to open in 2023, Cristo Rey Orange County High School will be the 40th school in the Cristo Rey Network. To prepare the school for academic and operational success, Holte will focus on expanding the school’s executive leadership team and board, preparing facilities for classroom and workplace learning, hiring faculty and staff, and recruiting the inaugural freshman class.

“Cristo Rey is an engine for opportunity that empowers young people to succeed by challenging and supporting them in the classroom, the workplace, and the community. I am excited to partner with the corporate community and generous benefactors to build an exceptional Catholic school to serve the students and families of Orange County,” stated Stephen Holte, President of Cristo Rey Orange County High School.

Holte brings 15 years of demonstrated leadership in Catholic education, including the Cristo Rey movement, serving organizations committed to providing opportunities to students from under-resourced communities. Throughout his career, Holte has advanced the capacity of multiple institutions to expand their impact, ultimately equipping students with the knowledge and skills to achieve their aspirations for a bright future.

“Steve is committed to the mission of Catholic schools and Cristo Rey. His experience and success in Catholic education and advancement will serve us well in Orange County,” stated Tim Psomas, Cristo Rey Orange County Board Chair. “We are delighted to bring him on board as our founding President and look forward to the impact he will make on our community through Cristo Rey Orange County.”

Steve’s work in education began as a fourth-grade teacher at St. Paul Catholic School in San Antonio, TX as a part of the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) Service Through Teaching Fellows Program. His decade of involvement with the Cristo Rey Network stems back to 2009 when he joined the team of member school Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School in Chicago. As Vice President of Advancement, he developed and managed a robust and successful fundraising program. Most recently, Holte served as Assistant Dean for Advancement at Arrupe College, an innovative associate’s degree program within Loyola University Chicago, where he led efforts to make college an affordable and accessible option for historically underrepresented students.

“Steve has been an instrumental part of the Network and the success of Christ the King. His leadership and commitment to our movement, already of significant impact, will grow considerably in the Orange County community,” stated Elizabeth Goettl, President, and CEO of the Cristo Rey Network.
