Today, the Cristo Rey Network announced six Cristo Rey school grant recipients for the 2019 Kenneth Hutchinson College Success Fund to support increased college counseling and alumni advisor personnel through new, full time positions.

School recipients include:

Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School
Cristo Rey Oklahoma City Catholic High School
Cristo Rey St. Viator Las Vegas College Preparatory High School
ICA Cristo Rey Academy (San Francisco)
Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School
Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep (Waukegan)

Since 2016, the Fund has increased new personnel at 25 of 37 Cristo Rey schools that serve 13,000 students this school year with more than 7,000 graduates currently enrolled in college.

Through a renewed, lead investment by the Wilson Sheehan Foundation in the movement's college initiatives program, coupled with additional generous gifts, the Fund will help sustain the Network's momentum towards Cristo Rey graduates achieving a bachelor's degree at the same rate as young people from families in the highest income quartile.

"Our gratitude abounds for the Wilson Sheehan Foundation's philanthropic partnership," said Elizabeth Goettl, Cristo Rey Network President and CEO. "The foundation's magnanimous support of the Cristo Rey movement is translating into unmistakable results for our young people nationwide."

The Wilson Sheehan Foundation's investments from 2016-2019 enabled the launch of the Cristo Rey Network's College Initiatives 360. The multi-pronged program developed and prioritized the resources to establish a Network-wide college-going culture, along with a systematic, results-based approach to improving the organization's bachelor's degree trajectory.

About Kenneth Hutchinson (1981-2017): Ken Hutchinson was a highly committed national voice on college access, specializing in strengthening admission to college for under-represented young people. Ken joined the Network in September 2015 as the Director of College Initiatives, providing support to college counselors and alumni advisors and all Network programming focused on improving Cristo Rey students' college match, access, and persistence outcomes.

Prior to joining Cristo Rey, he served Urban Prep Academies for nine years as a founding counselor and Director of College Counseling Programs. A first-generation college student and native Chicagoan, Ken earned a Bachelor's of Science in Education and Social Policy and a Masters in Communication from Northwestern University. He also obtained a certificate from Harvard University's Institute for Urban School Leaders in 2012.

The loss to Ken's family, to the important work he led, and to the entire Cristo Rey family is immeasurable. The legacy of Ken's accomplishments and his gift of self to his family will remain with the Cristo Rey Network and all those who knew and loved him.
