Jeb and Columba Bush have been named Honorary Co-Chairs of the Cristo Rey Miami Feasibility Study.
CHICAGO (June 1, 2017) - The Cristo Rey Network® announced today that former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and First Lady Columba Bush have been named Honorary Co-Chairs of the new effort to bring a Cristo Rey® high school to Miami.
Governor and Mrs. Bush join local business and civic leaders who recently commenced a Feasibility Study to determine whether a Cristo Rey school could succeed in Miami and provide a quality, Catholic, college preparatory education option to deserving young people from families with limited economic means.
"Providing access to quality education is the surest path to success. Cristo Rey schools, with their mix of academics and real world work experience, have a proven track record of raising student achievement," said Governor Bush. "Columba and I look forward to bringing the transformative power of Cristo Rey schools to Miami."
The 12-18 month Feasibility Study assessment, which examines demographic data, educational opportunities, religious, philanthropic and business community support, would be proceeded by the Cristo Rey Network's institutionalized replication procedures that drive long term academic and operational success.
"The Cristo Rey Network has long been interested in opening a new school in Miami, and Governor Bush has been a strong advocate for many years," said Chief Network Growth Officer and General Counsel Brian D. Melton. "His support is critical to the growth of Cristo Rey schools."
On target to open in 2020, Cristo Rey Miami High School is accompanied by six additional Cristo Rey schools in various phases of development, which positions the Cristo Rey Network to have 40 Cristo Rey schools serving 14,000 students by 2020.
